Password Manager vs. Password Generator: What's the Difference?
These two terms get used interchangeably, but they solve different halves of the same problem.
A password generator creates passwords
A password generator's only job is producing a random, strong password on demand — you choose the length and character types, and it hands you a string you couldn't have reliably come up with yourself. It doesn't store anything by default; you're responsible for saving it somewhere.
A password manager stores and autofills passwords
A password manager is a vault: it stores every password you've ever created (often generated using its own built-in generator), encrypts them, and autofills them into login forms so you never have to type or even see most of your passwords day to day.
Do you need both?
In practice, yes — a generator without storage means you have to re-generate or remember passwords, and storage without a generator means you're stuck reusing weak, human-made passwords.
